Question:
suggestions on ghi- bc/bs denial

I was denied by bc/bs due to undocumented supervised diets within the last twelve months. Help, what should I do?    — kennia B. (posted on June 5, 2003)

Start appealing but in the meantime go to your pcp and get started on a "diet" any weight you lose before surgery is a benefit to your liver (they tend to be fatty with us MO people). Hope this helps (I know we've been there done that but if you want to do this you gotta jump thru some hoops at times for the insurance companies...they like to drive us bananas ya know).

The insurance process can take a while so in the meantime, join Weight Watchers and have your doctor note that you have started it (any diet program actually). Get periodic weigh-ins with your PCP and have the PCP write a letter to the insurance company for you documenting this proof of a supervised diet "attempt".
