Question:
Can we eat corn on the cob?

I am 8 wks post op. Soon there will be roadside sweet corn sales, one of my summer favorites. I have not tried to eat any corn yet. Should I?    — Gail O. (posted on June 5, 2003)

I did not try corn on the cob until about 8months post op and i did fine, i only ate not even half of it though just to be cautious. Good luck to you! Post Op-11mos at 153pds at 5'9, sizes 8/9

Corn--no problem. Just chew it up, it's easy to chomp off the cob and forget to chew!

Hi! I'm almost 2 years out and I can't eat it...I've tried it and it just doesn't sit right with me. I'd LOVE to be able to, but no way....

I've eaten corn on the cob a few times without any problems. The most I've eaten at one time was the better part of a medium sized ear, but even that much didn't cause any trouble.

I'm 3 monts post-op and can eat it but I don't. It is very high on the carb list. I"ll pass until I'm at my goal weight. I want to make the best of this 1st year!

My dietitian told me that I could try corn, but to be very careful. Like the strings in celery, the corn kernel casings are indigestable, and she said they could clog my stoma. It doesn't sound like anyone else here has had that problem, but perhaps you should try just a few bites of corn the first few times out. I haven't tried corn at all yet, partly because I'm afraid it will get stuck, and partly because I'm trying to avoid starchy vegetables because of the carbs.

At eight weeks out? NO WAY. TOO many carbs... think of it this way: Farmers feed PIGS corn to fatten them up. Do you really want to eat corn right now? There are better veggies out there that you need right now. Corn is not one of them. I love corn, too, and can eat it now at 15 months out... good things come to those who wait. Next summer, okay? :~)

I was told that IF I chose to eat corn that from the cob is the best way, since we rip it off and that leaves part of the casing behind. Also to chew it very well and to limit it's consumption because it has a lot of sugar in it.

I had wls on May 8, 2001. I was eating corn on the cob a couple months later when it was in season. Although if I remember right I had slower weight loss while I was pigging out on it for those couple months. But it was worth every calorie! ;)

I can eat corn on the cob (LOVE IT), but have to be very careful...only about 1/2 a cob & eat slowly.
