Question:
Is this about right?

I read all these journals of massive weight loss and I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and am only down about 20 pounds. I'm doing everything by the book. Does this sound about right or am I doomed to be a slow looser or a non-looser?    — Sharon B. (posted on June 3, 2003)

You know we all lose differently but to me twenty pounds in three weeks is great! It took me two months to lose that much and another two to lose twenty more but now at five months out, my weight loss has picked up. I have found that as I got able to eat more and get more water and protein in I have lost better. Something about not eating much and going into "starvation mode" where your body thinks because your not eating much, it won't get anything else to eat and it trys to hold on to what weight you have.

Have you read journals of others the same as (or similar to)you? If you're thinking you're losing slow, I'm wondering if you aren't reading profiles/journals of others who have a higher BMI. good luck

Hi Sharon, I just typed you a long note, but there was a problem with my server and it didn't go through!!! UGH!!! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I am in the same exact boat as you! I went and saw my surgeon last Wednesday and I had lost 20 pounds. When I got on the scale today, I am STILL the same weight!! Although, I think I may be losing some inches. But, it is very frustrating! I try to have three protein shakes everyday. Then I usually eat some yogurt, or mashed potatoes or soup. (My doc still has me on Pureed foods) I think that I may actually NOT be getting enough calories. I am having a hard time getting all of my water in too. So, please don't think you are alone! I am right there with you! Feel free to email me anytime. I think we could be good encouragement for each other. Take care, Tara in NJ ([email protected])

Congrats on losing 20 lbs!! I have two thoughts about this: 1) my first month I only lost about 27lbs. I was a bit disappointed in myself, but then my surgeon said "that's nearly a lb per day, and that's excellent for this stage". I thought about what he said & decided he was right. and 2) I actually lost faster the second month or so, when I could take in more calories. My body is just too terrified of starving to let me lose well when I'm on just liquids. This may be the same for you. My profile may (or may not) be of some encouragement to you, because even though I felt like I got a slow start and was a little discouraged at first, things did pick up for me, and I'm very happy with my progress to date. Good luck to you.
