Question:
Diarrhea Chronic, IBS, Infection?

I am almost 5mths post op and 9 days ago I began having thin watery diarrhea. My diet hasn't changed any and fluid intake is about the same. 2 days ago i ended up in the ER for dehydration. They did cultures (no results yet) and put me on Lomotil. Medicine hasn't corrected the problem only lessened the frequency (5 times a day down to 3) Thought this might be stress related.. my parents came to visit 2 days after this started.. but they have been gone for 4 days now and it still persists. Just noticed that when I drink something, the minute it hits my pouch my intenstines get all gurgly. There isn't much pain associated with this.. just that annoying rumbling around. I've read the library but can't find anything that really fits my situation. I just need this to stop because I'm feeling dehydrated again and I don't want to end up in the ER for fluids again. Is it possible to develop IBS after surgery? Is this bacteria/virus related? Have I depleted my good bacteria stores and need something like yogurt? What type of fluids can we post ops (rny for me) take to prevent dehydration? Thanks in advance!    — daytymer (posted on May 30, 2003)
