Question:
After the honeymoon is over. . .

I'm just curious as to what the weight loss is like after the "honeymoon" period of 6 months is over. I am a week away from my 4 month anniversary and just wondering how slow it's going to be after 6 months?? I know that our window of opportunity is about a year and a half, but, how much actually comes off during that time? Would love to see some of your statistics from 6 months on. Thanks. . . — Kathy S. (posted on May 21, 2003)

Kathy, Hi thought I would pop on in and post an answer, at the 6 month mark, I lost a total of 100 pounds, from there yes it's trickled off slowly, month 7 I lost 11 pounds, Month 8 I lost 9 pounds, Month 9 I lost 7 pounds, Month 10 threw 11 I stayed put, (Plateau) Oh man I hated it, Last month I lost 6 pounds. I'm 12 months post op, I've lost a total so far of 130-132 pounds, I'm really close to my own personal goal so I now it'll come of allot slower with being so close to goal, I'm 5"10 so I figure 160 should be my goal,... Hope this helps, "The honeymoon maybe over" But with control you set your own path to success ! Hugs,

Honeymoon period time will be debated but I set my mind to 18 months. And low and behold, all my weight plus 5 pounds came off in exactly 18 months. To maximize your weightloss, and set yourself up for maintenance you need to be getting into a sweaty exercise plan (the kind where you really want to shower after). At 6 months I'd lost 85 of my 170 pounds. I'm 2 years out and maintaining...Good luck and God bless!

You know everyone is different. I lost 100 lbs in the 1st 6 months and then only 40 in the next 6 months. But if you think about the whole year 140 pounds !!! WOW I have never been so thankful!! However, in the past 3 months (9 months to 12 months) only 10 pounds...I am now 10 - 15 pounds from my personal goal of 155-160 and my dr. said I was now on a level playing field with the rest of the world who struggle with that last 10 pounds. I do believe that your body will continue to change over the next 6 months....Good luck

I wish I could remember 'where' the address is.. and maybe someone else will post it. BUT there is a 'chart' that you can use tha measures.. its like a grid.. the amount you have lost vs the time post. shows slow to advance weight loss. The 'avg' it seems is apx. 140 in one year.

As a starting lightweight, I lost 75 lbs. in the first 6 months, months 6-12 I lost about 20, months 12-18 another 15, and at goal.

Here is the site a previous poster was talking about, I think. It gives you your average weightloss prediction when you input your starting weight just before surgery and the month you want to know the average weightloss for post-op, 1 for the 1st month, 6 for the 6th month, etc. Put it in your favorites, I did!! I refer back to it each month and I am right on target!
http://clos.net/predict-wt-loss.htm
Enjoy! Lap-RNY 1/13/03 -100lbs & Counting!

I lost 116 pounds after surgery, 72 percent (84 pounds) of which came off in the first six months; the remaining 28 percent (32 pounds) came off in the next four months or so. I'm almost a year out now, at goal, and no longer trying to lose weight, but I still seem to see one or two pounds a month drop off ever since I tried to quit losing two months ago.

I lost 120 in the first 6 months and 35 in the next 4. DRASTIC slow down! I still have 90 to go!

I think alot of it has to do with how much you have to lose and those with more to lose will continue to lose a bit more during the 6-12 mo period than those with less to lose. Go to the bottom of my profile to see month by month loss thru 15 months post-op.

I am at six months right now and started at 272....am now close to 190. I just went through about a month and a half of stalling...but then in last 2 weeks have dropped 10! Honeymoon is still here for me. Each day I feel and look better. I am comforable with what and how I am eating. Not obsessed with food and I do enjoy myself. Mentally, I have not caught up with my newer body. Still have a ways to go to find the weight I am comfortable with. Good luck to all of you!
