Question:
Substitute for pasta?

I have been into the carbs alot lately so I am trying not to do any carbs except what is in fruit/veggies. Does anyone have any ideas for a suggestion for pasta? I would like to stay away from the whole wheat to if possible. Any hints???? Thanks, Donna    — Donna B. (posted on May 20, 2003)

Hi Donna- Don't know if this is what you're looking for- At Ocean State Job Lot, they sell the Low-Carb pasta. If you don't have Ocean State Job Lot in your area, I've heard that many health food stores carry low-carb pasta. Good Luck!

This is not really a substitute for spaghetti, but for lasagna noodles, I have used thinly sliced zucchini for layers it works very well, its low carb and delicious, good for protein too if your use fat free ricotta, and parm and if you like a little ground beef

http://www2.netrition.com/keto_spaghetti_page.html Try this website...I have not tried the spaghetti myself but it is only supposed to have 5g of effective carbs per serving. If you fell you must have pasta, this may be a great alternative for you. Hope this helps!

I second the Spagetti Squash. It's not bad, especially if your doing ethinic dishes. It doesn't work as well for spagetti for me. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi! My husband came up with a dish we call "no pasta pasta" he just uses the ground beef or whatever meat, veggies, tomato sauce, cheese and we really don't even miss the pasta in it.

I have used the Keto pasta. It is not the same but it is better than nothing. I've made mac & cheese and pasta salad with it. The more strong flavors that you can put with it the better, it kind of masks the flavor. The texture is a little different too, but if you haven't eaten pasta in a long time, it will do.

Some palatable substitutes for pasta is cabbage cut into either strips or squares, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli cut into thin strips and cooked to just done.
