I found excellent "lap" surgeon(s) (they're a team) Their average time for surgery is about 2 hours. The question is that they have "only" done about 30 RNY surgeries. By the time I have the surgery they will be up to about 60. They have very good reputations and have done other lap surgeries for a long time. Any feedback would be tremendously helpful. Thanks! — SJP (posted on May 19, 2003)

Hi Susan, My surgeon had done about 50 RNY's by the time I had my surgery
and it was smooth sailing all the way. He was so great I felt like I had
not even had surgery! Most surgeons have performed other LAP surgeries
before they got into WLS and are quite skilled. Check to see if they have
performed other LAP procedures besides WLS. Best of Luck!

Hi Susan, I am having my RNY-Lap tomorrow morning at 10am. By a team that
have done hundreds of other lap surgeries of other types, but I am thier
very first RNY. So, I would not be too upset about the #'s, everyone has to
have a first, tenth, and sixtieth. They train too hard, and too long, the
important question is how do you feel about putting your life in this
surgeons hands, only you know what your true level of trust is for this man
and his team. I trust my surgeon, and his team, and believe in his skills.
Best of luck to you...

I was told by a WLS patient that he was more comfortable with his surgeon
who was fairly new at doing the lap RNY becuase he felt he would be more
careful and cautious than a surgeon who as he put it "whips patients
in and out."

I had mine done by a general surgeon, in the military. I was #50 for lap
RNY's, and I couldn't have had a better experience!
