Question:
Any last minute advice?

Hi all. I'm having WLS in 2 days (May 15th). I have a lot of nervous energy, which I'm sure is normal. Any last minute advice anyone care to share with me? What to have, what to do, what not to do?? Is pacing normal?? lol. PLease, those of you who pray, keep me in your prayers. :-) OHHH .. I just got back from the cardiologist, I've lost 13 lbs since I saw him last in January.    — KellyJeanB (posted on May 13, 2003)

Hi, Kelly good luck on your surgery and may god be with you! We will all put you in our prayers. It is very normal to be nervous I know I was two days prior to my surgery, heck even a month before I started to get anxious. You'll do great!! Just make sure that you have all the things you need for your hospital stay like a comfortable pair of jammies slippers, and a robe, etc. Congrats on your weight loss sor far and after surgery it will only get better. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing!!!

Take chapstick and a fan to the hospital. Ask everyone you know to pray for you (even if they don't know you're having surgery). I did get a Will the day before mine but I'm a single homeowner and needed one anyway. You'll be fine, do some deep breathing exercises to help with getting the phelgm out after surgery. Good luck and God bless!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! And good for you for losing some weight beforehand as well- that's juse less to lose afterwards! I understand your fears and the pacing lol I was the same way, but I knew I had the support of my family and friends to get through it. I also trusted my doc and the nurses, so I knew I'd be okay. Just make sure to take it one day at a time, and you can get through it. It will be tough at first and you'll be in pain and feel tired, etc, but it will get better everyday! If you want, bring some things from home to the hospital to help you relax a little. i brought my own pillow and slippers and it helped make things more comfortable. I'll be thinking of you! Goodluck to you :-)

Make a list of all the wonderful things you want to do when you lose weight and bring it with you to the hospital. I was clutching that list as they wheeled me into surgery-it helped me to maintain composure! Lip balm and a fan, slip on shoes to the hospital. You'll be fine!

Just remember that the first few weeks will pass and be a distant memory soon! Also know that a lot of folks out here are praying for you and will be here to offer all sorts of advice and support. Be positive! Best of luck to you....hope to hear from you when you are a "loser"!!

I brought comfy slippers---the hospital provides those sock things and they were too hard to take on and off. Don't over do the pain meds as they can cause your GI system to becoime sluggish, and make sure you have a bowel movement before you leave the hospital---even if you need a laxative to do it. Best of luck!!!!

Loose clothing for the trip home! Batteries for the remote control, phone near your place at home where you'll recouperate. Miserable having to get up to get it in those first couple of days :>) Lots of ice on hand for cold drinks. You may or may not like cold beverages after, but nothing worse than craving it and not having it. Your favorite feminine pads - hate the ones the hospital provides! Lotion and lip balm and a pillow.

I suggest making a list for yourself of all the reasons you want the surgery and the things you will be able to do when you are at goal weight that you can do or enjoy right now. It can be very motivating in the months to come. Good luck to you. (Ann in TX)
