Question:
Question for Dr. Newhoff's Arizona patients!
Hi, I am having my surgery in August with Dr. Newhoff. I know he is one of the best in the business, but I would like to hear from any of his patients about your immediate post-op experience -- any complications or problems? Thank you very much! — beeda (posted on May 12, 2003)

Hi! A good friend had surgery with Dr. Newhoff,,,,,she was very happy with
his surgical skills but very unhappy with his bedside manner, office staff
and the hospital where the surgery was done.

I had surgery with Dr. Newhoff in August of 2001 and I have nothing but
praise and admiration for the man. My surgery was complication free and I
weighed 426 pounds the day of surgery. The hospital staff at Good Sam was
wonderful and very used to dealing with Newhoff's patients. They had this
fabulous bed called a Bari bed that made it possible for me to get that
400+ pound up and moving around within a few hours of surgery. A counselor
came to talk to me before I left the hospital to make sure I knew what to
expect once I got home. I saw Newhoff two weeks after I left the hospital
and every month after that and I knew if I ever had a problem, I could call
his office and see him right away. I like his dry sense of humor and his no
nonsense manner. I don't really see the point in beating around the bush, I
was dangerously fat and he and I both knew it. He's as happy about my
success as I am (I think I surpassed his expectations for how much I could
lose). I've now lost 280 pounds and my only problem is excess skin which
just doesn't go away on its own. I know I would not be living this new
wonderful life if it wasn't for Newhoff and his surgical skills. Good luck
to you on your weightloss journey!

I had Dr. Simon for my surgeon, he is Dr. Newhoff's new partner. Before Dr.
Simon however I was going to go with Dr. Newhoff. He is an amazing surgeon,
in my view a surgeon should be selected for his skill not his ability to
coddle his patients. When I woke in recovery he was the first person I saw,
he came by my bed to say hello and made a few jokes to make me laugh. He
then came by on Saturday (my discharge day) to go over my Going Home
Instructions and to answer any questions that I might have (he and Dr.
Simon alternate weekends at the hospital and I just happened to fall on Dr.
Newhoffs weekend). He was very knowledgible and never once did I feel
talked down to. He stood with me until all of my questions were answered
and told me how great I was doing and to keep up the good work. I feel that
Dr. Newhoff is an exceptional Dr. I know quite a few people that have used
him as their surgeon and not one has complained. He has a dry sense of
humor and makes it known that he expects you to work towards improving your
health, that this isnt a free ride. I think the only time he becomes
aggrivated is when you become lazy. I cannot express to you the importance
of walking and getting up and around, it will make you feel so much
better!! Good luck and may God bless you!!
