Question:
What do I need to do to prepare for my consultation??
What all is needed for the consult. I have some paperwork, is there anything else I need to do? — Shannon D. (posted on May 6, 2003)

What ever paper work you have, take with you. Your surgeon's office will
take care of getting the rest of your information. You will need the names
and phone numbers of all doctors you have seen over the past 3 to 5 years.
They will then have you sign a concent form to have your records forwarded
to the surgeon. The surgeon's office will then compile this information
and send it to the insurance company for you. They will then have you make
your appointments with the other doctors that they require before surgery.
You will probably see a psych, heart doctor, and dietician. Good Luck!!

I don't know when your appointment is, but you can speed things up by
calling your doctor's office and telling them you need a copy of your
medical records to take with you to the consult. It's so much faster than
having the surgeon send a request to the doctor's office. Then you can
make a copy for yourself in the event you decide to visit another surgeon.
Good luck! Kimberly

I think the best thing to do would be to call the surgeon's office and ask
them directly what you could provide that would speed the process along.
Different surgeons have different procedures. Ask them, they'll tell you.
Also, ask them what tests you could have done ahead of time to speed things
along. After you get that information, get any referrals you need from your
PCP to have those tests done. You may want to schedule those tests now, or
at least call some and find out what type of wait you'd be looking at. Hope
this helps.
