Question:
1 Year Out, No Loss in 2 Months. Is Age a factor?
I'm 47, will be 1 year out 5-20 down 140lbs. and have notlost in 2 mo. I do curves 3-4 times a week. I started at 397 now at 266. I wonder if because I stayed at around this weigt the longest about 20 years ago will I stay stuck here and not lose any more??? So am I just to old to lose any more/ Also I have a very LARGE hernia the doc said he would remove it after I lose more but I stopped losing so how much does a hernia weigh if anything? I need all the help I can get! thanks,Sandi — Sandra B. (posted on May 5, 2003)

HI Sandi .. I don't know a thing about hernias.. I would guess it weighs
something... but what are you eating? I know that at 9 months out.. I've
been struggling with plateaus and very slow loss, but I've got it back to
just about an average of two pounds a week again... I added more to my
workout.. I work out with machines three times a week and I run about 6
times a week... the change has been dramatic for me. I also decided to pay
a lot more attention to food and water.. and to make sure that I had a lot
of days where I had a good amount of lean protein. I'm not exactly the
same as you.. but I'm 43 this year, I started at 372 and I'm at 220 (or so)
now... good luck... those are the things that worked for me.

Sandi,
Hernias are not "removed". They are basically just poked back
in. They are a part of your intestines that have pushed through a weak
spot. SO you won't lose any extra from the hernia repair. I had 5 repaired
in December.

Hi Sandi,
A hernia doesn't get removed, it gets repaired. A hernie is a protrusion
of organs (usually large intestines) through a tear in the abdomonal wall.
At least that's what mine was. A piece of mesh was placed in to prevent
the the intestines from sticking through. I had a large hernia too, about
the size of an eggplant. The hernia doesn't cause you excess weight.

Since others answered you about the hernias, I'll broach the stalled
weight-loss. I've read many post-ops saying that they stalled (some for
quite a while) at a "familiar" weight - a place they had been at
once for a long time. Your body, I guess is comfortable there and rests a
while. Give it time and stick to your plan - it'll get moving again.

Don't know about the hernia, but I had the plateau from hell at about a
year out. I'm 41. I think it was for about 2 months, then the weight loss
kicked in again. I eliminated refined carbs, kicked up my exercise, and
things EVENTUALLY started moving again. Good luck!

you sound exactly like me. postop 1.5 years. started at 380, now 260 with
no loss after 1 yr postop. tried everything except starving. i feel good
at this weight although i would like to be less. i'm doing my plastic
surgeries now tho and maybe it'll help. if not, atleast my arms and belly
will be gone. good luck..
