Question:
5 days post-op -- when will constant gas go away??
I am 5 days post-op from a lap RNY and doing reasonably well but wondering how long I can expect to have the constant gas? My stomach growls and churns constantly and wondering if this is just a temporary adjustmental stage? — Kimberly P. (posted on April 27, 2003)

Yeah the painful gas after WLS is'nt fun. I took some of Walmarts EQUATE
brand of extra strength gas x. Once this gas stops (a few weeks or less?)
you will probally be "farting up a storm". That too will pass
although mine lasted around 6 months. (I was a real gas- lol). ;)

Kimberly- I was also LAP and I know why they emphasize walking, other than
the blood clot risk of course! Walking really really does help you expel
the gas. And I know from my experience, the more gas I expelled, the better
I felt. Some of the worst post-op discomfort for me was gas that I COULDN'T
expel. It will get better for you real soon! Congrats and a speedy recovery
for you! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -123lbs.

You want the gas to stop?! But, it's so much fun to walk around belching
all day long. (I actually found the best way for me to bring it up is to
keep raising my hands/arms above my head...like you instruct a coughing
child.) I'm 5 weeks post op and still burping day and night. I'm just
thankful it's not smelly farts! But, from the other posters responsers I
guess it's something we have to look forward to! Lucky us! Good
luck...BURP!
