Question:
supplements and anesthesia
Just an fyi to pre-ops.......I'm preop and decided to start taking some supplements.I recently found out that some vitamins and supplements can hinder the effects of anesthesia.I was taking OPC's and stopped because that is one that can effect anesthesia. — jennifer A. (posted on April 24, 2003)

another bad one to take pre-op is ginko biloba - it's a blood thinner and a
lot of people don't realize it or mention it to their docs. St. John's
Wort is another bad one - always tell your doctors ANY pills or supplements
you are taking or have taken within a month of a surgery.

I heard also that Valerian Root would inhibit the performance of the
anesthesia. I was told to get off of everything 3 months before having
surgery to get all of it and its effects completely out of your system.
