Question:
Possible hernia, I am still 40lbs. from goal, can I have tummy done?
Hi, I am down 150lbs. sitting at 202 (I started at 352). I noticed for a while that I seemed to have an uncomfortable bulge when I coughed (hurt badly when I had bronchitis and coughed constantly) now it seems to be the size of a fist..I am going to see my RNY Dr. next week...I want to discuss with him getting my TT done at the same time, is it too soon since I am still 52lbs. from my goal weight? I am being realistic that I might not get to that goal weight, I have lost 50% of my previous body weight and have been "stuck" at this weight for almost the last 2 months despite working out 3 - 5 days a week...also being that I am in decent physical shape can I expect a quicker recovery. I am terrified of going through pain again...HELPPPPP!! — Trish R. (posted on April 21, 2003)

Hi Trish, I am 30 lbs from goal with a double hernia and I am trying to
lose some more before I have the hernia repaired. I would like to be about
15 lbs from goal. By the way, as I sit here at the computer, I noticed
something strange. I looked down at my cantaloupe sized bulge and patted
it kind of like a drum. It sounded hollow! I patted the left side (the
double hernia is on the right) and it sounded firm. What is that all
about? If anyone knows, please tell me.

i also have a double hernia. i have the same symptoms that you also have.
i am about 40 lbs from goal, and am in the process of getting my hernia
repair and tummy tuck scheduled. i am dealing with 2 surgeons, that is the
only reason there is a delay on the scheduling. but my RNY surgeon said
that once you hit the 100 lb mark it is safe to do the tummy tuck because
(in my case) the tummy tuck will drop me btw 15 and 20 more lbs. good
luck!

I thank God for my hernia because I think that it could have had something
to do with the insurance paying for my TT to make it medically necessary.
