Question:
10 Days Post Op- JP drain was removed when I left the hospital- Still draining

I had a lot of fluid the first day or two then I was changing the bandage once per day. Now at 10 days I am having a lot of drainage again. No smell, clear fluid. I am soaking a wash cloth every few hours. No pain or redness near hole. My Doc is on vacation, but I would assume this is ok.    — Gail O. (posted on April 20, 2003)

Actually I wouldn't call that normal, that is way to much drainage at this point. Your doctor may be on vacation, but there is always an on-call doctor on, so give them a call. That is to much drainage for now, since it had slowed down before. Don't wait to call them. Good luck~ Sandy

See a doctor, my drainage started out clear and I ended up with an infection that still hasn't gone away. My advice is to have it checked right away. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I had the exact same prob 10 days out.. started gushing.. had the Dr paged and told him.. he told me as long as I wasn't sore.. the area wasn't red and the drainage was clear it was pretty standard... he did say that they do pump an awful lot of fluids the time you are in the hospital and of course tissue healing creates fluid.. I stopped a few days after and haven't had any further trouble. hope this helps
