Question:
How much alcohol can we have (if any) after WLS?
I am not a big drinker at all but I do have a few special occasions coming up this summer and was curious if I can have any alcohol. I know it should be avoided but can it be taken in small incriments. If so, what kind is better for us (wine etc..). Thank you — [Deactivated Member] (posted on April 19, 2003)

I am also a SOCIAL drinker. I have been going dancing every sat. night and
I have a couple drinks(diet pop w/ vodka) and my doctor said that was fine.
I am 7mo. post-op and had my first drink around 5mo.(They do recomend
drinking after 6mo.) I have been able to drink more than that, but I know I
really should'nt, so I don't. My advice is try your driking at home, but
remember the bars don't give much liquor in your drinks! Just be careful
and drink to catch a buzz and not to get wasted :o) have fun!!!!

Because of our rewired intestines, alcohol goes thru your system quicker,
so you get "high" much faster. I had my first alcohol at 4
months post-op, a small glass of champagne at my parent's anniversary
party. 1 small glass hit me like I had had 3! Since then, I do have 1/2
glass of wine at social occasions, but usually no more than that. I don't
think any kind of alcohol is "better" for you than another-you
just have to see how it affects you and try to minimize having too much.
