Question:
How to work within the guideline

I have BCBS of Alabama(XAA Preferred Care). One guideline states there must be two years of unsuccessful weightloss attempts but must be doctor supervised. My insurance only went into effect within the last month. I haven't seen a regular doctor in about 3 years so I have no dr. supervised diets only "over the counter or fab diet" attempts. Can this be worked around? I have other guidelines covered.    — Mary K. (posted on April 17, 2003)

If you've tried Weight Watchers (or other organized type diet plans) and have kept your log sheets, sometimes they will consider those. My doctor took copies of mine and submitted them to insurance. Best wishes. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -150

If you ever tried Phen-fen, Meridia, or any other psycho, greasy poo poo diet pill, then that was a doctor supervised diet. I was on and off of those drugs for over 10 years. YUCK! Good luck.
