Question:
How long after surgery will I be able to have sex again?
My fiance and I are very sexually active. He is concerned about hurting me after surgery. How long will it be before we can comfortably be active without him worrying about hurting me? — Tami S. (posted on April 16, 2003)

It's probably just me, and it may have been that I was all kinds of doped
up, but we did it within the first week. I was fine. I know it must sound
aweful, but it worked for us.

Hi there! I am pre-op, but when I went to my surgeon's group consult, he
addressed this issue. He basically said you can have sex right away as
long as there's not a lot of strain on you (you're partner should do most
of the work, gee darn!), but once your incision is healed, go for it! He
said "no acrobatics at first", and he also said, "and if you
must do it in the hospital, please close the door!" Made me laugh
right out loud! Hope this helps!

Tami, try the Q&A and look up "sex", you'll find alot of
different answers- this question gets asked alot. LOL I'm a year post-op,
but my surgeon told me to wait 2 weeks, I waited even longer, was in too
much pain nor did I have the energy to do anything! If you do it sooner,
just make sure you are very gentle and extra careful. Goodluck to you.

I had open RNY and on my discharge instructions it said no intercourse for
three weeks. I was still a little sore at three weeks, but my husband and
I just took it real slow and gentle and I was fine. Good Luck to you!

I had Open-RNY and we waited 7 days. We took it very slow and gentle. Also
did not use the "normal" position. It did not hurt anything and
there's no way we could have waited longer because we to are very sexually
active.

I waited about 5 months. But wait -- that was because I didn't have anyone
to have sex with. :) Good luck!!!
