Question:
Just wondering if there is a trend recently for insurance companies having exclusions

I have already had my WLS in 2002, but by the questions lately it seemed I see a lot of people saying insurances companies are excluding the WLS in there polices. Just wondering if is something new that is happening lately for them not to pay for it, or has this been happening? Just curious.    — tatterpuddin (posted on April 15, 2003)

Yes, the insurance companies ARE changing. Aetna changed their policy on 1/16/03, mandating a minimum of 6 months doctor supervised dieting and nutritional counseling. This doctor is NOT covered as a medical expense and can NOT be affiliated with a WL surgeon. Go figure. I'm just glad I was carrying two policies. Aetna (bad) and United Health Care (wonderful).
