Question:
if you are a lightweight
When you lose your weight does your skin shrink back better than ones that are ot light weights since your skin has not been streched as much or is it still the age thing that has to do with your skin going back in place — wildbrat (posted on April 14, 2003)

I think it really depends on the person my pre-op weight was 294 I am 5'9 I
am currently 182, my only excess skin which is hardly noticeable is in my
inner thighs.

From what I have read and from what I hear in support groups, it doesn't
matter if you are a lightweight or not, as to whether your skin stretches
back without hang. It has to do with how long you have been overweight(how
long has the skin been stretched), the elasticity of your skin, your age
(younger skin bounces back easier), whether you have had pregnancies, and
your genes. When I was younger, as I gained and lost lots of weight, my
tummy always went back to a normal shape-so did the boobs for that matter.
I'm considered a light weight, but that didn't help any this time!

Hi, I think it really depends on where do you carry most of your excess
weight. I'm 5 3" started at 231 lbs, I'm currently at 143lbs and have
enough skin hanging in my stomach to make a purse. I'm 34 years old, still
young but most of my excess weight was in my stomach. Thankfully it'll all
be gone next month when I get my Tuck.

After 2 big babies I probably would have needed a tummy tuck anyway. I
think once you have stretch marks there is no going back. I also think if I
had done this 10 years earlier I would be bouncing back a lot better.

And don't forget, not only do we have stretched skin, we've got MORE skin.
As we gained weight our bodies grew more skin to hold it all.

I was 19 when i had my 1st child, i went from 150 to 205 lbs. I had the
baby and had this little flap hanging. I got down to 175lbs and it was
still there. Fast forward to now, I am down to 206 from 262 surgery day and
280 was my last weight after my last pregnancy. I still have a flap of
skin on my stomach hanging, its bigger then before. I will definately be
getting a tummy tuck wether i have to pay out of pocket for it or not. I
have had this since I was 19 yo and i want to get rid of it when i get rid
of my excess weight. So young people can have the flap too. I dont know
what i could of done to prevent the flap from happening other then not gain
excess weight at all in which case i wouldnt be here if i didnt.

Beth, there are so many reasons why a person can have better elasticity
than others, and I personally think it just comes down to luck at some
point. A lightweight doesn't necessarily make it better, but it may help.
So many people thought I'd be fine after weightloss b/c I had alot of
things going for me: I'm 23, was only obese for 5 years and was a
lightweight. But after losing almost 120lbs, I still have extra skin/fat
below my stomach, and it is pretty wrinkly. In clothes I look like I have a
pretty flat stomach, so it's really my own issue I have to deal with, and
not enough for TT. It just all depends, so just hope for no sag! lol
Goodluck to you

I started out 5'2.5" and 212. I am now 127lbs 8 months out and only
have a tiny bit of loose skin around my lower belly. I think it will
possibly firm up in the future when my skin catches up to what I have done
to my body. Plus, I am young, no kids, good genetics, working out, etc.
Good luck. No more surgery for me--EVER!!!!!
