Question:
Anyone post-op tried the Boca brand meats?

I'm 6 1/2 wks post-op and while I'm not really craving red meats, I was wondering if the Boca-type burgers and chicken patties were ok to eat. They aren't high fat like regular red meats, and I was wondering if they were any easier to digest.    — Nicole L. (posted on April 12, 2003)

There boca burgers and boca spicey chicken is so good!! I love it. The garden chicken brand grilled chicken is really good too. I find it easy to digest and chew well. It really taste good too. I put a slice of no fat cheese which is 30 cal and 5 grams of protein on it and it is like a cheeseburger.

I'm 2 months post-op, but have been a vegetarian for years. The "fake meat" products are not only good for you, but are also a good source of protein. I highly recommend the Morningstar line...Boca's are good, but I think Morningstar is even better. I don't know if they're easier to digest than real meat, but I can tell you that I've been eating them for several weeks (with my dr.'s blessing) and have had no problems at all.

Renee, the soy protein "meats" are perfectly easy to digest. Just remember to eat slowly and chew very well. You'll do fine! Margie B

Yes!! Boca cheeseburgers are wonderful. Personally, I think they are the perfect post-op food when you're ready: the cheeseburgers have 130 calories, 13g protein and 6g fiber. I did try the other varieties but didn't really care for those. I also tried the Gardenburger chicken patties (not real chicken) and they were kinda nasty. I guess everyone is different.

I agree the Morning Star Farms product tastes better. They also have a pretty delicious sausage pattie that you can cook and crumble in a Egg Beater cheese omlette - YUM! As far as the most digestable Raw Salmon whether as Lox or even better sashimi quality. You don't need teeth and don't have much to chew since the flesh is very very soft and almost pasty. If you get the sashimi quality that is fresh there is no smell (very very slight) and the taste is clean. <p> Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!

I love the Boca foods. Burgers to italian sausage are all good and even my family likes them. Morningstar's breakfast strips are good when you want something salty to eat. Wendy

I have found soy protein to be hard on the intestines, which was confirmed by a nutritionist. Just my experience.

Also want to mention that Gardenburger makes a really good BBQ "rib" patty that is very good if you like that smokey rib taste! And Quorn makes a pretty good chicken patty that is more "chickeny" than anything else I've tried and has less of a garlic taste than the Boca chicken.
