Question:
Do we absorb calcium from dairy products??
I know about calcium citrate vs. carbonate, etc., but do we absorb (post-RNY) calcium from milk, cheese, etc?? — kelly D. (posted on April 7, 2003)

Dairy is the "least" source of food calcium. Better courses are
green leafies, nuts, seeds & legumes, surprisingly. The problem with
diary is that the food has to pass through the lower stomach and mingle
with the specific enzymes that break it down into useable components. The
food doesn't pass that way after RNY. Hence,. "bypass". It is
doubtful if most people past the age of 5 have an abundance of those
elements on board by adulthood. An AMAZING number of us already HAVE bone
damage pre-op. Although the docs have told us for years that fat folks have
dense bones, it is more myth than fact. And part of the problem is that,
Only In AMerica, we've been looking for calcium in all the wrong places.
