Don't worry, the weight will come off. It's only been 3 weeks and your body
is still adjusting to not only surgery but a change in your eating habits.
12 pounds is about right. I also had unrealistic expections that I would
drop significant weight really quickly. I am about 7 weeks post-op and down
47 pounds. The weight really started coming off once I started eating real
food again (can't figure that out) AND once I started excerising again. I
started taking walks at night around 4 weeks post-op. I started Nordic Trak
around 6 weeks. Take it day by day, make wise food choices and the weight
will come off. The one thing I learned from this website is that there are
times when you won't lose any weight and then it suddenly drops. Hang in
there and just concentrate on getting your strength back and making wise
food choices. Open RYNY 2/23/03

I too have experienced the stall! I lost about 25 pounds in the first 3
1/2 weeks, starting eating real food and exercising and the scales haven't
budged for nearly 2 weeks. I keep hoping it is my body trying to figure
out what is happening and eventually the reduced intake and increased
activity level will kick in. It is frustrating and disappointing - but
knowing I'm not the only one going through this helps.

Wigging out? Yes. Use the frustration towards your exercise (mild if
you're an Open). Common sense will kick in and you'll realize that it
really is scientific. You're not eating nearly in the capacity that you
used to so there's no way you can not lose weight. I went thru the
"I'm a slow loser" stage too. Then I figured, eh...it'll come
off. And it did. Down 170 pounds. Lower than my goal. It took the
entire 18 months but I'm here, I'm thin, and I'm proud...

You know...if they outlawed home use of scales, there would be a minimal
number of posts about plateaus and "having this surgery and not
losing". The scale is your enemy - at least use of it on a daily
basis. I got weighed exactly *twice* in my first two months. Even now,
I only get weighed at the support group meetings monthly or at a doctor's
office. Do your water, eat protein first and do your exercise and you
*will* lose. Guaranteed. But, you gotta ditch the scale...JR (open RNY
