Question:
VistaVitamins & B12... will I get enough?
Anyone on VistaVitamins know if you still need additional B-12? — Kristin H. (posted on March 22, 2003)

I am not on Vista Vitamins, but I have been told and have also read that
the intrinsic factor needed to absorb B-12 is made in the lower part of our
stomach - the part that has been partitioned off. The only way that we can
process B-12 is via monthly injections or by taking it sublingually...JR

I take a b-12 pill once a day and so far all my blood work has been great.
I haven't had a problem with absorbing it. Surgery: LAP RNY 8-28-02, down
85lbs. Good Luck!

You body stores enough B12 for a couple of years, so often shortages will
not show up until then. The only B12 that's readily absorbed by bypass
patients are sublinguals and, of course, injections. Be sure to get copies
of all your labs and look for trends up or down. Doctors usually only look
to see if everything is in the "normal" range and will not see
something heading into the danger zone, or something that has taken a
significant dive from your previous labs.
