Question:
Can someone tell me the symptoms of gallbladder/gallstones?
Can someone PLEASE tell me what symptoms you have experienced with gallbladder pain? I have had pain in the right side of my abdomen area and also between breast bone and under ribs, also in lower back. It started about 6 months ago and wasn't bad but now it is getting worse. It also seems to be worse in the middle of the night that it wakes me up. And if I walk to much I get a pain in abdomen area that it sometimes doubles me over. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. I do have a call in to my doc but would still like other opinions...Thank you!! — lyn T. (posted on March 18, 2003)

The pain you're describing sounds like gallbladder to me. It is definately
more common to have pain at night, specifically late at night. I took a
class last week that actually explained that in Oriental medicine
gallbladder 'time' is late night, I think 11p - 1a. Considering that's
when I had most of my attacks that made sense. Anyway, you should call
your gastroenterologist and see if he can schedule for an upper abdominal
ultrasound. That will tell you for sure if you have stones in there. It
will probably need to be removed. The surgery is quite easy since it's
done Lap. Usually it's done as day surgery. Don't worry about it at all.
Good luck.

Hi there! That sure sounds like gallbladder to me. When I had it I had
the pains about mid right back and sometimes they would radiate to the
front. It felt like when I was passing kidney stones only the pain was
higher up. I went to the doc and they did an ultrasound of my gallbladder
and sure enough, it was gallstones, a whole bunch of them ( I think the
surgeon told my mom and husband over 100 ). Get into that doc ASAP.

I had all the symptoms that have been mentioned but after every possible
test for gallbladder and kidneys -it turned out to be an ulcer. The last
test performed was an upper GI and there it was. They are going to do an
endoscopic procedure to take a biopsy. But right now I am taking Carafate
and it is working miracles. Good Luck..Sandi

It sure sounds like it could be gall bladders. I wanted to add to those who
are saying to get it checked out. I only had one attack (and attack is the
right word!). It started on a Monday and I had it removed on Friday. My
surgeon had intended to do it lap, but ended up having to do it open
because it was severely abcessed. He did not want to take a chance that it
could rupture when he actually removed it from my body. I had not know
that it can rupture, kind of like your appendix. It's certainly not common
for that to happen, but it is a possibility. You really don't want that to
happen.

I had ongoing gallbladder attacks every couple of months for two or three
years. I never got it checked out. Eventually I had an attack that led to
me getting pancreatitis and required me to spend a week in the hospital.
Don't fool around with this.

Hey Lyn! I had the exact same symtoms--they were terrible! It sometimes
felt like I was having a heart attack! I'm glad you have a call in to your
Doc! Good Luck!

I just got back from having an endoscopy and they found a huge ulcer. I too
had pain right under my sternum, and an ongoing backache for months. Only
once did I have severe pain on the right side. My first thought was gall
stones also, but an ultra sound showed no stones. Gallbladder problems
often cause nausausness/vomiting and are triggered by certain foods. When I
was having the sternum pain, it hurt even drinking water.
