Question:
Protein Crystals - really as good as candy/kool-aide??
I've seen Protein Crystals advertised - just wondering if anyone has tried them and if they are as good as they say they are. It would be a nice alternative to the powdery stuff. If you have tried them, do you just pop them like candy or in a drink or what? And is the taste and protein worth the price? — Anne R. (posted on March 16, 2003)

Someone posted this a couple of weeks ago about them.
As promised, I've done my homework in hopes I can help answer your
questions about Crystal Pro... a pixie stick type of protein. I always
advise calling the company and asking to speak to someone who understands
the chemical breakdown of ANY protein. With Crystal Pro, they advertise it
as ... "loaded with branched chain amino acids [BCAAs] like valine,
leucine and isoleucine, as well as a full and complete spectrum of
Essential, Nonessential and Conditionally Essential Amino Acids) can
immediately begin going to work to help rebuild and grow lean muscle
tissue, and up-regulate your metabolism. Instant oral absorption less amino
acid catabolism (waste) because less protein passes through your gut and
digestive tract. You get immediate amino acid availability and the
best-tasting protein product ever developed.">> Sounds great
huh? Makes you want to buy their product because it tastes like candy and
is so EASY!! :) Don't be so sure! I spoke to the company's nutritionist and
explained that we are gastric bypass patients and asked if she was familiar
with the surgery. She was... sort of. I still explained that we have
virtually no acids (needed for breakdown of food) available to us except at
the end of the illeum. I asked her if Crystal Pro was pre-digested. She
said no... it was intact protein. She said it would not do us any good. So,
whenever you find a new protein that sounds too good to be check it out!
You sure don't want to rely on a product that can't help you and could
potentially cause malnutrition. This was written by a yahoo moderator at

In my opinion, YUCK!! They do not taste like pixie sticks or any candy. It
is tart, sour and has a bad after taste.
That is just my opinion.
