Question:
If you had an AGB I would like to hear if you are satisified with the outcome.
I am "signed up" for RNY, have had all the Dr tests, paperwork is in. Just waiting for surgeon appointment. A friend asked me to check into lapband, mainly because the risks are lower- and I could always do RNY if it wasn't successful. (and I am terrified of risks) What do you think? The weight loss seems slower and some don't make it all the way down. I am 5'4", 265 lbs, 42 years old and just want to be "normal" again!! (but I am a single mom and I don't want to take unneccessary chances) Thanks for your time! ~skinny dreams~ — Tracy J. (posted on March 6, 2003)

I can probably give you the email of someone who has had both. Although
there are many who've done both, I know she is more than willing to speak
of her experience(s).

Some do real well with the AGB, I nearly got it myself. See my profile. I
decided on the RNY, since pre op I LOVED high calorie liquids like
milkshakes. They are band friendly and I didnt want to go thru surgery
twice. There is a bandsters group on yahoo. I am very happy with my RNY, My
surgeon who does both says the loss averges 55% or so compared to the RNY
of 75%. I lost it all with my RNY. The band results are better in europe
and I asked about that. They figure the better european results are because
eating habits are different there. Like little fast food.

I had AGB on September 30th. I've lost 38 pounds so far and I am thrilled.
yes, the weightloss is slower but personally I would rather loose it
alittle slower, I think it is heathier. You will find much more band info
in yahoo groups, just type in bandsters under groups. You can also email
me directly.
Good luck,
Gennifer

I'm very happy with my lap band (AGB). I've lost 79 pounds in 7.5 months
and need to lose about 55 more. The band is wonderful, the surgery was
quite easy, fills are a snap. I can't say enough about how glad I am I
made the decision to get the band. More info on my web page. Click on my
profile (click on my name below) to find out more and get to my webpage.

This is to anyone here who might work for a certain company that does
surgeries: did you company start doing bands?

Ooops, posted too soon! About the surgery company (you know, the one with
the commercials that insinuate that the woman is a horrible mother because
she's fat and so she should have surgery), I ask because one of the best
things about the band is that you it is reversible so that everything
internally is back to normal. There wouldn't be any scar tissue that would
prevent a different surgery such as RNY from being performed later, if a
person so chose (although I certainly wouldn't choose to).
