Question:
Insurance Companies that accept bypass surgery
If I am rejected by my insurance (Aetna), I am planning to look for another company that covers bypass surgery. Can you suggest bariatric-friendly companies? — Katerina M. (posted on March 5, 2003)

The Aetna policy that I have covers the surgery as long as their
requirements are met so hopefully you can be approved through Aetna.
However, my husbands insurance (United Health Care) will be changing to
Mutual Medical - Ohio Med and I've already checked with them. They do
cover the surgery and have very lenient requirements - 5 yr. weight history
proving morbid obesity, psychological evaluation, listing of prior diets
and listing of co-morbidities.
Good Luck

I was told my my first surgeons insurance rep that Pacificare was the best
insurance. I got it and it was smooth sailing. I was approved on the first
try, really pretty quickly. Good Luck!!! Open RNY 11-11-02 down 115lbs

Hi, I switched to United HealthCare because a fellow coworker had that
insurance and she was approved for the surgery very quickly. She 's alot
smaller than me too and she had no co-morbidities.
When I got my new insurance cards I called UH and asked them very
specifically about my company's contract with United HealthCare and I was
told as long as you got diagnosed as obese they will cover it.
Than the lady said she loved the gastric bypass surgery and I asked if she
'd had the surgery and she said no that she just likes it because so many
people get approved and it makes them so happy. A little oddly put but none
the less a good sign. I originally had M-Plan HMO and was denied. So good
luck!
