Question:
I have a pain in my pouch

hi :) im 6 weeks post op open nontransected rny..I have been eating solids since around the second post op week..nothin makes me dump or get sick except sugar makes me feel icky..the other day I ate steak and I must have not chewed well..I got the pain in my pouch that means I ate to much or too fast..and it ended up comin up so that was good..seems tho for the past 2 days since that happened..my pouch has been very sore! hurts to hiccup or breathe too deep..I also noticed that I ate more then usual at dinner..I can actually eat alot for only bein 6 weeks..I didnt really get full after dinner either tho I usually do get full! well all I ate earleir was 4 oz yogurt so maybe thats why I ate so much dinner? I know that I cant drink with food coz it causes me serious pain so I dont do it but I tried to drink with my dinner just to see if it would hurt and it still did..am I bein paranoid here or what? I was also curious as to why I can only dry heave now..no actual throwin up..also I have been able to guzzle water for a few weeks now..seems like nothin bugs my tummy!!!    — christine S. We can guess all we want but you need to see your doctor for your concerns. Thats the only answer that you should listen to. Insist he run tests to check that pouch for staple rupture. hmmmm I thought most doctors transect the pouches :o( these days. Best wishes

I would check with your doctor if it continues. My guess is that the steak was just way too much too handle and maybe it's still from that? I know every surgeon is different and diets post-op are different, but I personally think eating things like steak that are very tough to chew and breakdown might be a little too much for you so early post-op. I wasn't allowed to have steak or even raw veggies until atleast 3 months post-op. At 6 weeks, I was eating yogurt, soups, eggs, cheeses, pureed stuff. Just because your stomach needs time to heal and you don't want to overwork it! if you eat smaller meals more often, you can usually eat less as opposed to eating 2-3 meals a day, b/c then you are hungry and can eat more. This is just what I've found. Goodluck, I hope you feel better!
