Question:
Does anyone know if you wear shapewear (Firm control) if it will help your skin to...
be firmer? It compacts everything and I have always worn them as panties and my stomach hasn't fallen as others my size have so I was wondering if I should use the ones that include thigh control and longline bras. I still have 50 pounds to lose but the skin on my thighs is pretty loose. — Candace F. (posted on March 4, 2003)

I don't know if it will actually cause your skin to be firmer but my
opinion is that it couldn't hurt. I wear them all the time and they've
almost become a security blanket for me. I think they just improve my
appearance overall. Once our skin carries around 100 excess pounds it's
generally lost it's integrity and really nothing can be done to replace it,
however, compression garmets or the shapewear your describing can possibly
prevent it from getting worse. There are two GREAT companies online that
you can buy good compression garmets from. They are:

you!

I'm not sure, but maybe it can help. I'm with you guys, too, I wear them
aall the time! They definately make me feel more secure and look like I
have a flat stomach. And I've almost lose enough weight where I barely wear
them anymore! But I've had friends who had liposuction- and they have to
wear things like that for atleast 2 months after the procedure, and that is
to tighten the skin. SO if it works for them, maybe it does a little for
us. Doesn't hurt!

Totally have to agree with Lezlie's comment about wearing compression
garments after lipo. Afterall its a major fat loss very quickly as with
WLS. In fact I was told that if I had worn a compression garment on my
upper arms I wouldn't have near the skin problems I do now. They are
shrinking some but an arm lift is most likely in my future. I'd totally
say, if you can handle wearing a compression garment all the time then go
for it. Personally I HATED wearing my binders after my tummy tuck and was
pretty slack with wearing my compression panties after my last "touch
up". I still am happy with the results but wearing compression
garments definitely isn't for everyone. Kudos to you if you can.
