Question:
Is my goal realistic at 5' 9
Hi all! I'm 2 months post-op, LAP RNY. I'm 5'9", I think I have a large frame (but according to wrist & elbow measurements, it might be medium), and started at 336 pounds. I'm currently down to 283, so I've lost 53 pounds. I had originally set a goal weight for myself of 155 pounds, which means I want to lose about 180 pounds all together. Does this seem reasonable to anyone else? Also, does anyone have any idea what size I would be at 5'9", probably a medium-large frame, and about 155 pounds? My "ideal" weight is somewhere between 129 and 159. I just can't see myself at less than 150! Thanks AMOS Family!!! :) — SuzAnne S. (posted on February 28, 2003)

Suzanne,
Hi there, well let me first say Congrats on weight loss !, That's awesome
and for only 2 months you go girl.
When I first begun WLS I started with a goal weight of about 175, how-ever
it's changed I too am 5'9", I started out with a weight of 303 pounds
wearing a size 28-30, I'm 9 months post op and am down to about 178 pounds,
total loss of 125 pounds so far, I have since changed my own personal goal
to 160 pounds, I too have a medium large frame, right now I'm in a size 13
express jeans, but would love to see a size 10-11, I'm hoping to reach a my
changed goal of 160 pounds..... My sister think I'm bony now, how-ever I'm
an apple and all my weight is on my tummy. So it'll be a ruff road to get
rid of it, but I'm up for the challenge,
Your ideal weight should be just fine, as long as your comfortable with it,
and you feel healthy...
I have some before pics, and a face picture taken in October since then
I've lost 32 pounds...
I'm hoping to post a full body picture soon. Hopefully this weekend.
Smile ! You're doing great, if you need anything email me.
Post op 9 months down 125 pounds.

hi there i think your goal is reasonable, and congrats on your weight loss
so far, my sister is 5'9" and she weighs about 207 and looks thin so
at 150 she looks gaunt but it all depends on the person, body shape etc.
good luck to you

I hope not! My surgery is 3/18, I am 5'9" and starting out at 425. My
goal is to get down to 175, which is 250 lbs, so I have farther to go than
you. I'd like to think it's possible for both of us. Good luck to you and
congratulations on your loss so far.

I would pick a size rather than a weight. My original goal was to crack
the 130's (I'm almost 5'7") to get into a size 10. I now weight 155
and am comfortably in a size 8. I have a small frame. At your height, you
may be too gaunt at that weight. You'll just have to see. I've already
had lots of PS, and if I lose anymore, my doc says the hanging skin will
just get worse.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I too am 5'9 started at 310. My
surgeon set a goal for me of 146 (according to some stupid chart)...I told
him then, I thought that was to little for me, that my personal goal was
160-165. (I had in my mind that would be about a size 14 - I would be happy
with that). I am 9 1/2 months out and have lost 132 pounds and an down to
a size 12. Mind you I still weigh 178. Most people 178 don't fit into a
size 12...it is really weird. This week at my appointment my surgeon told
me I could get to 160-165 but based on the weigh 178 looks on me, I should
lose any more weight. WOW - check out my picture on my profile and you
will see how 185 looks on me.

Hi! I am 5'9 starting weight 262. I am now almost 8 mos post op and around
165 pounds. And have stayed here for about a month. Whats wierd.. is last
month i tried on 10's and 11's and either could not fit in them or barely.
But 12's were comfortable. This month, actually yesterday I tried on 12's..
too big, then 10's and they were perfect! LOL.. but i don't weigh any
different. I guess it takes a little more time for our bodies to catch up
with our weight! I believe I am a medium frame also. Good Luck!

I am 5'9" and my Dr. wants me to be 140-- no go. I have a large frame
and my pulminary Dr. said for me to be 160 I would have a bmi of 20
something and perfect model weight. So I am shooting for 160- 175. Good
Luck
Still preop till 3/28

I can see 155 on someone who is not muscular at all. I'm a pretty muscular
woman and I'm 5'9." My goal is 185. I think I will look fine then.
I'd just like to wear a 10/12. When I was in high school, I was in a 10/12
and the same height I am now and I weighed like 170 or something.
I would consider your goal to be too low-for me. Just depends on how small
you want to get. It's probably possible.

At 5'8", I now weigh 160. I am not muscular, and I have a small to
medium frame. I would like to lose another 10 pounds (most of it is in my
flabby thighs). I am a 12/14 size right now. I think that I look really
good clothed. I'd be in a 10/12 if I lost another 10 pounds. I also will
probably need some plastic surgery for my thighs and upper arms. Overall,
I think 155 pounds sounds really good for you. My guess is that you'd be a
size 10.

Well I am 5'9" large frame, fairly muscular. I am still preop, but my
dr wrote down on my chart 130! Wow, I can't see me getting there. I blew
through that size at someting like 5th grade. I will sure try to get to
that goal. I guestimate that I would be about a size 4 at that weight, if
not lower. We shall see.

I am also post op LAP RNY, 5'9, & now weigh around 190#. But, I am
weight training fairly seriously & am in a size 10/12. My surgeon set a
goal for me of 170#, my personal goal was 150# and size 12. Well, here I am
almost 8 months post op in my size goal-but no where near my weight goal!?
SO, I quess that weight is only a small part of the picture...my trainer
once told me to pick a goal size. She said, "Once you are wearing that
size-you won't care so much what the scale says". Best wishes in your
process.
