Question:
Any special diet after Gallbladder removal?

I am 15 months post op RNY and just had my gallbladder removed. My doctor gave me no specific diet to follow and I found nothing from researching the internet. Since so many people here have lost their gallbladders as well, is there any diet that was recommended or are there any problem foods you can tell me about?    — Julie S. Doctors used to prescribe a low fat diet but no longer do so. What you will notice is if you eat fat, that you will get diarrhea. I've not had any other problems from the gallbladder removal, and mine has been gone about 5 years now. Recovery from that surgery was about a week for me.

Julie, I just had mne taken out about 1 month ago, and nope no diet here, However I've cut myself back, and am watching the fat, (I want to reach goal) more then anything...... I find that after gall bladder surgery nothing bothers me. Best of luck to you. Post op 9 months down 125 pounds

Hi I had my gallbladder removed back in 1990 and pretty much the only restriction was on fat, because since the gb is gone some people find that their bodies are not able to break down the fat as effectively and so the body has to expell of it immediately. meaning diareah(sp).and sometimes abdominal crampping. It's pretty much a crap shoot as to whose body will react this way cause for some they can still have the same diet as pre surgery and it doesn't bother them at all. Just be careful and take your time reintroducing fats back into your diet and you'll figure out easiely enough which one of the above you are.

Thanks for the advice. I really liked the seemingly unintended pun of reaction to foods being a "crap shoot". I will definitely watch the fats, especially when I am out. I pretty much eat low fat, anyway. Now I have a great deterrent to keep me in line. It fits right in with the goal of losing weight. As always, I can turn to my AMOS family!
