Question:
As a post-op how many shoe sizes have you gone down?

I'm pre-op & wear a size 10W, I have a TON of shoes & I LOVE all of them. I was wondering if I will go down in shoe size? I would love to hear what everyone has expierenced!!!! — heelsandbikes (posted on February 27, 2003)

I wore 8WW preop, after 70# off they are huge on me. I wear thick socks to keep them on but am waiting for the big spring shoe sale at nordstroms to buy new ones so I am not sure what size I wear.

Hi. I did not technicaly go down any sizes in shoes. I was a 7.5 wide before I was overweight and I still am at nearly 9 months post-op. I did notice however that many of my pre-op shoes do not fit anymore because I had stretched them out with my extra weight. I probably should have been wearing a WW!

Same as Linda! I suggest a nice insert if there are some you cannot part with. I have flat feet, and I need to actually get larger shoes to fit the inserts. Needless to say, I don't wear the inserts much!

I started as a 10 medium, am down 55 pounds, and still a 10 m. Hoping I don't go down...I love my shoes, too. :)

Hi Angela, I'll be 2 yrs post op this April. I haven't lost in my feet. My feet did thin out slightly as the shoes fit better. I was disappointed as before children/fat I was a 10. Now I need a 10 or 11 wide depending on the cut of the shoe! Best wishes as you begin your journey.

I'm 9 months post op and down 125 pounds, I went from a size 11w to a size 10w, I like the extra romminiess... I still have the old shoes, haven't gotten rid of them.... I would love to get down to a regular size 10, they have too many cute styles

I went from a 10.5W to a 10M. A little hint for those shoes that are just a little big, but too nice/cute to stop wearing: Get Dr. Scholl's DOUBLE Air-Pillo insoles at your local Walgreen's or Long's (the regular ones just don't make enough difference...the Double ones are about 1/4" thick). They're really comfy and take up that little extra bit of roominess so that those favorite shoes can be worn a bit longer. I think they're about $3.00 a pair. Hugs, Joy

I am just over 8 months post-op and down 130 pounds. Before RNY, I had to wear an 8 or 9 (dress shoes and boots) just so I could fit my chubby little feet into the shoe or zip it up the side. My shoe size was actually a 6 1/2- 7, but my feet were WAY fat. I can still get away with wearing some of the old shoes, but I have to wear an extra pair of socks to get a snug fit. I'd say I went down a good 2 sizes since the surgery. I also went from a size 10 ring to a 7! :)

I wore an 8W to an 8 1/2W pre-op. I currently weigh 112 pounds, and I wear a 7M to a 7 1/2M post-op. I don't think that the length of my foot changed, I just couldn't stand anything squeezing my feet, because they were already terribly swollen most of the time just from carrying all the excess weight. So, not only would I buy wide-width shoes, I would buy them longer to give me plenty of room. My feet aren't swollen anymore (yippeee), so I thoroughly enjoy wearing my size again.

I'm down 155 pounds and went from a 14W to a 13D. Oh well, I guess they're still big but what can you do? I definitely have shoes that I can't wear anymore although from my days selling shoes at Kinney when I was a kid, if it's a slip-on, you can put a pad under the instep of the shoe and it will keep your foot closer to the back of the shoe making it fit better. - Mike

hi there :) ive gone down about 2 and a half sizes in shoes and my rings are just falling off. ive lost 190lbs. in high shchool, my class ring fit sorta snug on my ring finger, now i can wear it loose on my thumb. my feet got bigger as i gained weight, now they have gone back down to what i wore in highshcool which is an 8 half or a nine.

Back before Christmas I had purchased several pairs of dress shoes and didn't even think to try them on since I had been wearing a 10W for at least 10 years. Well, I was beyond shocked when I not only almost killed myself trying to walk in the floppy heels, but when I took them back, I found out that I was in a normal 8! And this was only after losing about 70 pounds! I am now down 110 (in only 5 months!) and have wondered if my feet would get any smaller since I want to lose another 40 pounds or so. I would assume they will indeed get smaller. Everything else is!
