Question:
What exactly did Dr. Cacchione tell you about your new digestive system?
I am curious to know how many of Dr. Cacchione's patients know exactly what size their pouch is and how much he bypassed and the size of their common channel? Also, How are you doing and how is your weight loss going? I am just wondering if there is any consistency with those of us who had him as a surgeon. My stats are as follows: my pouch was left at 150cc's and my common channel is about 2 1/2 ft long so most of my small intestine was bypassed. That is how I understand him. My surgery was on 11/7/02 and I have lost 57lbs as of 2/21/03. Not at all bad, in my opinion. I am not trying to compare anyone. I am just wanted to know how some of his patients are doing? I also find that I can eat about 8oz of food at a time. Am I pretty close to others? I have a great fear of stretching my pouch and not losing all the weight and keeping it off. Responses are greatly appreciated. — Kathy C. (posted on February 23, 2003)

Kathy,
To be quite honest I don't recall the exact size of my pouch but I do
remember he said it was the size of an egg. If you check my profile I had
my 1 yr. anniversary on the 7th and to date have lost 141 lbs, although
from Oct. until Feb. 3 I lost 2 measly pounds. A week later I did manage to
drop 5 lbs though so I hope I was on a prolonged plateau.
Dr. Cacchione sent me for an upper GI to check my pouch size because of my
weight loss s-l-o-o-o-w down. I will find out the results next month. He
says I may have to have a revision if my poch has stretched.
I too can sometimes eat between 6 and 8 ozs. of food but it depends on if I
have eaten anything and/or the consistency of the meal. Ex. I can sometimes
eat a whole Healthy Choice meal for lunch and struggle to eat a few bites
for dinner. I have the same fears you do and believe you me I intend to
address this during my next appt. I'm also going to ask about the exact
size of my pouch! LOL! Feel free to email me if you'd like. Julie S. in
Lou., Ky.
