Question:
Can you tell me about your WLS in a military hospital?
I know there are a few military hospital's that will do WLS. Can you tell me about your experience including getting approved, wait lists and after care if you live far from the hospital? Thank you. — nelbelle (posted on February 20, 2003)

I can tell you I had my surgery done in a VA hospital. Not exactly military
but close enough. It went really well, the chief of surgery is extremly
knowledgable about rny so I had no fears. Also, the VA I went to is the
only one in our region that does them so they had geared up (bed, training,
equipment etc for obese patients) I was confortable and quit at ease with
the entire nursing staff (well there is always that one nurse that will
make you miserable) and physicians/surgeons, they did an excellent job. I
felt more precautions were taken because VA's are also teaching facilities
so I had about 5 surgeons on rounds that would check in on me at all times
of the day. Overkill on the treatment, but I loved it. Also being a women
in a mostly male facility was fun too.

I had mine done at a military hospital. I couldn't ask for better care. I
love my doctors, the nurses, the hospital, everything. I live about 40
minutes away from the hospital. You can read my profile for more info, if
you'd like. :)
