Question:
Can too much sodium make you become dehydrated?
I was under the impression sodium made you retain water, but I just read that too much sodium can do the opposite. Comments?? — kelly D. (posted on February 15, 2003)

The way I understand it, and I may be wrong, but salt makes us retain
water, not use it. Its kind of like salt is a lock. The more salt you
take in, the harder the lock is to pick. THe more water you drink to flush
the salt out, you will be able to pick that lock and use the water you just
drank for your muscles, organs, skin, etc. Bad analagy I know. Hope that
helps. Annie
