Question:
Has anyone out there had very slow weight loss after rny and still

reached their goalk? I'm 13 weeks post op and have only lost 32 pounds. Granted, I wasn't a heavy weight starting out at 230, 5'2". However, I always had a terrible time losing weight even when I adhered to a diet. I'm so afraid that I'll never reach my goal. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on February 15, 2003)

I have the same stats and I am pre-op. I think that we some of us will loose slower than others but I don't see any reason why our goals can't be met. I have read SOOOOooooOOOOooo many profiles on AMOS of people with my pre-op stats and have no doubt I will do fine in the end. COngrats on the loss....its great!

My loss was pretty slow. I am 5'3". At one time I weighed 340, but at the time of my surgery, I weighed 287. I never loss huge amount of weight any of the months since my surgery 2-30-01. However, the weight keeps coming off and I rarely gain any. So, all of these months down the road, I weigh 147 and still seem to lose a few pounds each month.

At 13 weeks you have lost 32 lbs. If you continue to loose 32 lbs every 13 weeks that's 128 lbs in 52 weeks. Dose that still sound slow? I think you are doing great!

Great question--I am 3 months out and down 35 pounds--I just wonder with this slower loss than most will my window of opportunity be longer...any feedback out there? I am THRILLED about the loss of 35 but would be really thrilled to come in with some higher losses or at least get more work out of my tool in the long run....This is work...

I was a relative "lightweight" also, with a BMI of 42. My BMI is now under 25, one year later. I was a very slow loser, by many standards. I also did NOT exercise. However, my goal was to be in the Ideal BMI range. And I have met it, and I am very happy. I'm still losing at about 1 pound a week, and I expect to lose at least another 10 pounds. Don't let the huge losses that many people experience discourage you. Just keep remembering that slow and steady losses really do add up! See my profile for my weight loss pattern.

I was considered a lightweight for surgery. I was 5'1" and 243, and one year and one month later, I am at 112. I'm doing everything I can not to lose anymore. So, if anything I would say, as a lightweight, you only need to worry about potentially losing too much. You will probably not have any trouble reaching a normal BMI within a year, I was at my ideal weight way before my year was up.
