Question:
Completed the CPAP titration!

I ended up at a level 13. I get my machine today, and I've called BTC to let them know. According to BTC, my chart will go for doc's signature, then I'm off to scheduling!! I'm so excited! I've vowed not to be one of those nagging people that call every day, but now that I'm so close, I can hardly stand it! Any suggestions for pre-op nerves and planning? Thank you, AMOS family - without this website, I never would have even considered this surgery!!    — vittycat (posted on February 14, 2003)

Hi! I'm glad to hear that you are all set to go. I too have a c-pap machine. I am now 6 weeks post op and am scheduled to have another sleep study done. They have found that with a 50lb weight loss, my pressure has gone from a 14 to a 10. The doc said that maybe by summer, no machine will be needed! I CAN'T WAITE! Good luck and I pray you have the same success getting off your c-pap.

I went on BiPAP 3-1/2 weeks before surgery - pressures 17/14. Since surgery (11 days) I haven't used it one night, per the surgeons orders. I even called my pulmonologist to see if we could drop the pressures so that it would not push the air through the pouch so much and he told me to follow what the surgeon has directed. I find I am sleeping pretty good and am slowly doing less mouth breating and I am only down 30 lbs since I had my study (12 before surgery and 18 after). I wonder if I will ever use it again. Right now I am not inclined to and am thinking about sending the machine back. The rental is costing $457 per month and it's just sitting. What a waste.
