Question:
What clothing size did you finally settle into?

Im 30 years old and had open WLS on 08/05/02. I started at a weight of 391 and a height of 5'8". Im just over 6 months post op and have lost a total of 145 pounds so far. My goal weight is 160 so obviously I have a ways to go yet. Right now Im frustrated because Im on a plateau (no weight loss in a month). Im wondering, for those of you who started out at similar stats, what was the clothing size that you finally ended up with. I have a large body frame and my smallest clothing size ever was a 12. That was when I was in grade school. Currently Im a size 18. But, it seems like I'll never get any smaller. I'd love to reach a size 14 and have bought some shorts for the summer that are that size. It just seems like they are soooo small. Do you think Ill ever achieve this. I dont think my body will ever squish into something smaller than a 14. Plus, I have a lot of excess skin already in my stomach area adn Im afraid that's going to hinder me from getting into smaller sizes. What do you think?    — c B. (posted on February 10, 2003)

I had my surgery 06/2000, I was 36, weighed 337 lbs, at 5'8". I now weigh around 200 lbs, wear 16/18's. I had hoped to be able to get to 160 also, but I have settled at around 200(give or take 5-10 pounds either way). This was the size I had worn when I was younger, I wonder if this is why?

Hi, I'm 5'8"...started at 276. I'm now 180 and stuck on my usual monthly plateau. I'm wearing a size 16, top and bottom. My goal is 160 as well...I was at that weight before when I got married and my Jessica McClintock dress was a size 14. I looked decent at that size, too, so I'm not even TRYING to get to a 12. I actually can't remember ever being a size 12. Size 14 really sticks out in my mind as the smallest I've ever been as an adult. I do have a poochy stick-out stomach that MAY hinder my fitting into some of the 14s, but someday (please, Lord, someday) I hope to be able to afford a TT. But for now I'm just concentrating on getting to 160/size 14, and I think I will be mostly happy with that. You'll get there, too, I'm sure!!! Hugs, Joy

You will get there:) I started at 293 and I am 6'1 was wearing a size 22 or 24 and now I am in a 8. I have never seen anything under a 16 my whole life. I still have trouble going shopping and picking up an 8 I still think I need the biggest on the rack. But it feels great my daughter and I can wear the same Nike shorts in a med. Good luck you will get there!

HI, I don't think you have to worry, I started in a very tight 22 and I'm now a 4/6 a size I've never been in my adult life and that's including my teens. At 190 lbs I was a size 14, so you see my only warning would be don't ge shopping crazy until you're shure your weight is stable, I did go shopping manic when I was in a size 10 and now all these clothes look like clown wear on me and I had to donate them..... Good Luck.... Diane

I am 5'10" and started out at 297 lbs. I am now down to 160 and wearing size 8's---never thought that I would ever wear an 8. The smallest size I ever wore before I gained weight was a 10. I think I have stabilized now. I'm about 17 months post-op from a Duodenal Switch.

We're not *quite* the same size before surgery (I'm 5'9" and started out at 345) but I figure any input couldn't hurt. :) I started out at a size 26-28, bra size 46C and shoe size 11, and now am in a size 10-11, bra size 36B and shoe size 9.5 - 10, depending on the cut of the shoe.

YOu never know how much weight that you will lose. However, I would encourage you to focus on being healthy. Appreciate the fact that you are healthier and maintain the healthy lifestyle. Prior to the gastric bypass, I weighed 365. I now weigh 180 and I wear a size 14.
