I am 63 and had my open rny on 4/15/02 and as of yesterday have lost 135 lbs. I feel so much better and have a lot of energy. I haven't done a lot of exercise because of a back fusion and knee replacement the year before. I want to lose at least 45 more pounds. I would highly recommend this surgery to anyone. Judy Shock

I AM 67 AND HAD THE LAPBAND SURGERY ON JAN 2. I HAVE LOST 25 SO FAR. I HAVE HAD NO COMPLICATIONS FROM SURGERY, IN FACT I WAS DISAPPOINTED WHEN I RETURNED HOME THE NEXT DAY I FELT NO DIFFERENT THAN WHEN I LEFT. I WILL HAVE THE LAPBAND TIGHTENED WHEN I GO BACK IN 2 WEEKS AND I HOPE I WILL LOOSE FASTER. I CAN EAT ANYTHING AND TOO MUCH NOW. I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR ME. I HAVE ABOUT 150 MORE TO LOSE. BETTY JOY

I had my surgery in Nov. '02, a month before my 63rd birthday. So far, I'm down 40+ lbs. I feel much better than before, have more energy, but I still have a lot of trouble with digestion. I'm still not drinking 64 oz of water a day because I can't take more than 3 sips at a time without feeling a pain in my chest. I have trouble digesting most meats, no matter how much I chew. But I'm still glad I had the surgery. One of my friends, who is 2 1/2 years out, tells me the stomach is still healing and warns me if I think it's difficult now, to wait until I can eat much more and have to worry about eating too much! Mentally, I feel very good; just wish eating was a little easier.

Hi! There is a group for people over 50. The founder was 68 when she had surgery with many, many medical problems. Go to [email protected] and you can speak with people who are all in the older age group. I was 57 when I had my open DS 13.5 months ago. Have gone from 360 lbs. to 192 lbs. All comorbidities are gone. Life is fantastic! Carol
