Question:
I am 5'11 and 365--looking for someone at same starting point

to share thier success. How much weight did you lose in the first year? How long did it take you to get it off? I know every one loses differently, but I just kind of wondered how my body type has done. Thanks!    — Kylie E. (posted on February 3, 2003)

Hi,, I myslf have not had the surgery yet, however I have a friend who went through it 10 months and she was about the same weight but a litte shorter and she lost 135lbs already. I learned in my research that everyone is different even if height and weight are the same. So results really do vary.bbI am 5'10'' and 310 lbs, I'd love to have someone to go through this with from start to finsh and even beyond, if you are interested in being pen pals (chat pals) feel free to e-mail me. GOOD LUCK!

Hi I am 6' and started at 368. My 1 yr anniv will be on 2/22/03. I am now down to 250. I feel that I should be further down by now. I have not lost any weight in the past 3 months. I had an open RNY. I do not have dumping problems which means I can eat sweets and fats with pretty much no adverse effect. I have seen a return of my previous bad habits. I can snack pretty much on autopilot all evening long and this is not helping me at all. I did manage to step up my exercise during the month of January and I still have not seen any added weight loss, I must have the metabolism of a snail. I mean I am walking over 3 miles at least 3-4 times a week and at least 1 mile the other 3 days of the week plus some weights at home. I hope I dont sound too discouraging. I have my annual visit with me surgeon scheduled in March and I really want to tackle my snacking this month. I know the window of maximum losing is up to 18 months so I am trying to focus on that...I still have 6 more months. Best of luck to you!

Hello, I am 5'10'' and started at 378 pounds. I had surgery on 7-22-02 (6 months ago) and have lost about 100 pounds. My weight loss has really slowed down, but I am still losing. I hope to lose at least another 50 pounds, but if I didn't lose any more I still wouldn't regret having this surgery. My life has changed so much in the past 6 months, it has been worth every bit of struggle. Feel free to read my profile and write anytime! Good luck, I'm sure you'll be very successful.

Carrie... Happy Almost One Year Anniversary... I read your profile a lot because you were similar in starting weight to me... bet you didn't know that.. .. <br>Anyway, to answer the question, I started at 372, but I'm 5'6". I had an open RnY on 6/27/02 and I weigh 242 right now. That is a total loss of 130 pounds and this week is the first one where I haven't lost any weight. I'm working a little at trying to bust the plateau, including being VERY careful about what I'm eating. Good luck!

Hi there, I started off at 380 and I'm 5'11. I had some serious complications from surgery (and don't worry I won't get into that ;o). I am now down 120 lbs or so. I currently weigh 260 lbs. Oh, I had lap RNY on Sept. 6, 2002.

Hi! I started at 360 lbs. but was only 5'7.5" In 13 months I am down 168 lbs. The surgeon says I am not finished losing but I am content to stay where I am. My 3x/4x tops are 12/14's and the 32 pants are 14/16's. I am 58 years old and thrilled to have the extra quality life I have now. Carol

I started at 383 and I'm 5'11". Although i am a man, and I know we tend to lose faster than women, i can tell you the first couple of weeks you'll lose like crazy. I lost 16 lbs the first week. I think I will have lost another 10 to 12 in the second week. So yeah, it does drop off fast. The more you weight, the more that comes off initially. Good luck.
