Question:
I had a gormet coffee yesterday, any hidden fat, carbs or calories?
I had a vanilla latte decaf, sugar free syrup, non fat milk and no whipped cream. I am 4 weeks post-op and it was something I enjoyed very much. Can I have this endulgence often or are there hidden carbs, fat or calories in it? — Jennifer T. (posted on February 2, 2003)

I didn't have any gormet coffees until I was about 10 months post op. I
did have decaf, whole milk, flavored syrups and whipped cream!! It was a
treat I allowed myself. Of course I got the small and split it with my
husband. I have gotten this coffee nearly every week since then - about 8
months ago. It has not hurt my weight loss in my perception and is
something I enjoy immensely. I cannot drink a whole one unless I water it
down - too sweet. I dont' think the way you had yours that you should have
a problem. However I am not the best judge of these things. I did not do
low fat anything during my weight loss but I did do sugar free for the
first 8 months. Now I do have sugar but limit it or I'll feel terrible. I
have lost 165lbs and have just reached normal weight range at 18 months
post op.

Hi there. You discovered my favorite thing! I actually own a coffeehouse,
and this is by far my favorite beverage. It feels like 'cheating'. But,
not to worry, there is nothing hidden in there. In fact, you should try to
find a coffeehouse that has more than one flavor of sugarfree syrup. Then,
you can really have some fun. Some other suggestions to try at your
favorite coffeehouse- instead of skim, ask for sy, and up your protein a
bit. Try a skim steamer, which is just milk with SF flavored syrup. Ask
if your coffeehouse has steeped chai. If so, you can have steedped chai
with skim milk and some artificial seweetener (Heaven!)One note thought-
the chai must be STEEPED, just like regular black tea, it can not be the
liquid or powder kind- WAAAAAY too much sugar in those kinds.
Have fun!

I think it is a good treat. You get some protein from the skim milk and
there's no sugar (except the lactose in the milk). You even had decaf!
Personally, I am a double-tall nonfat with whipped latte kinda gal. Yes, I
get the leaded! I have gotten used to drinking it without any sweetener
(except the little bit of sugar in the whipped cream). If you want to try
the soy, try it at home first. Most soy milks have a bunch of sugar in
them. It would be a shame to get that dumping feeling and not be able to
lay down!

This is my very favorite "treat". I am allowed skim milk and
decaf coffee, so once or twice a week I go to Starbucks and get a SF
vanilla decaf skim latte. As the others have said, there's protein in the
skim milk. If you can tolerate dairy, I'd say go ahead and enjoy!
