Question:
Does insurance cover breast lift?
For those who have had a breast lift, or reduction, did your insurance cover it? What did you have to have recorded in your medical records to get them to cover it? I'm still pre-op (hopefully not much longer..lol) and I'm trying to get as much info on everything I can get. Thank you :-) — KellyJeanB (posted on February 1, 2003)

Hi. Some insurance companies will cover a breast reduction if it is
medically necessary--usually (I believe) if the woman has back problems
because of her large breasts. If you have a history of medical problems
like this, it's possible to get insurance to cover it. Good luck!

My insurance company paid for my breast lift (I have federal bc/bs). I
don't know what codes the doctor used in submitting it, but on the day of
surgery I read a little of my chart and saw the words ptosis and deformity.
My insurance company will not preapprove any surgery, so I knew I would
have to pay if they later denied. The funny thing is at the same time I
had a tt done with hernia repair and they denied that as cosmetic! I'm
appealing now.

Mine was covered by insurance. I had letters from my chiro and GYN, but my
PS didn't use them. He said he would save them for an appeal if needed. The
photos speak volumes and the same problems apply to pendulous breasts as in
large breasts. I always had very large heavy breasts and after wls they
deflated and headed south, but I still had the same problems as before. My
doc wrote that "she doesn't want them any smaller, just put in the
place they need to be"
