Question:
Has anyone used their WLS surgeon for a TT?
Hi all -- I have the greatest WLS surgeon in the world. I trust him implicitly...when it comes to WLS. He is a laporascopic expert, who has been doing WLS for over twenty years. He has never lost a patient. My WLS experience, thus far, has been picture perfect. Here is my question. He has started talking to me about plastic surgery. Not for the immediate future, but for a year out. He has pointed out that I will need a TT. (Like I didn't know that). He keeps telling me he will do it for me. Is this unheard of? Ultimately, it might not matter, because I think I'll need a breast lift at the same time and will probably find a PS who can do both (my WLS surgeon doesn't do breast lifts)...but I'd like to know if anyone has ever had their WLS surgeon do their TT, and what the results were. Thanks! — Tamara K. (posted on February 1, 2003)

Tamara, No this is not unheard of. I am in a support group in Jacksonville
and the moderator had her TT performed by her surgeon Dr. Overcash. He does
them all the time. They are vascular surgeons so they can perform them to
if that's their specialty.

Tamara, I haven't had any "plastics" (still not at goal), but my
bariatric surgeon also does TTs. I've seen several that he's done on other
patients and he's excellent. However, he doesn't do breast lifts. My
thinking is like yours, that IF I take the plunge into plastics, and IF
it's advisable, I'd rather have both done at once. I'm thinking I'll get a
consult with at least one or two PS, in addition to my bariatric surgeon,
to see what they say about doing both procedures at once. If you go with a
PS, be sure it's someone who's done lots of work on WLS patients. Good
luck!

My own opinion on this is I would only have a specialist do his/her
specialty work. In other words, a wls surg for wls, an eye doc for eyes and
a board certified plastic surgeon only for PS procedures. I heard too many
horror stories about ps that have gone wrong. If you want your wls doc to
do this I would ask to see many surgeries photos he has done and if he has
other patients who you can speak to re: their results. Just my opinion.
