Question:
I found out I have a umbilical hernia, should I get this repaired now?

I am down 142 pds. I'm over 5 mos post-op. I was a size 26, now I can get into a 14. The problem is I have this large bulge sticking out under my breast area (like a cantalope). It makes my clothes fit awkward and I wear a binder to help hide and support the hernia. I consulted a plastic surgeon whom I have a consult with next month. I found out since I lost over 100 pds BC/BS will pay for a TT as well as the hernia repair. My family doctor says its no rush to get this fixed but its ugly and makes my stomach looked deformed. Should I get a TT and hernia repair now? Anybody else experienced an umbilical hernia that bulged out?I have about 40 pds to go to goal weight. Thanks ,Beth    — Elizabeth C. You lucky dog you! I had to pay for my TT and it cost me a bundle but worth every penny. I had 2 hernias repaired at the same time. I say go for it now. If you have lost 142 pounds then you have a lot of skin that can be cut off. You will lose weight and feel much better after the surgery. Good luck. Marsha
