Question:
is the pain of the LAP RNY comparable to a LAP Cholecystectomy?
I was watching the Carnie Wilson story on adoctorinyourhouse.com and her Dr. said that the internal organs feel no pain. So..I have had the lap cholecystectomy. I am scheduled for my LAP RNY on 2/11/03...so since the wounds on the exterior are the same shouldn't the pain be similar? Please I need to know. I had a lap cholecystectomy 8 months before my lap rny. I did find that
the pain was more severe after the rny. I think the reason for that is
that I had two more incisions, the incisions were larger, and I had a drain
that was uncomfortable for a week. Over all though, the pain was still not
too bad. It did not compare to my c-section pain. Take care and best
wishes on your up comming surgery!

My gallbladder removal was performed LAP, exactly 1 year after my RNY was
performed LAP. My RNY was more difficult to recover from by far. My
gallbladder removal, was a no-brainer- I was in by 6:00 AM, home by 3:00
PM. I took 1 week off, and probably did not even need to do THAT. It
could be because of girth, and the amount of time under the knife.

My choles. and rny were both lap and I thought the pain and or soreness in
recovery was about the same. About a week. The rny took longer to recover
from, just me getting used to eating liquids and soft foods and eating
small amounts and liquids; and my body recovering from anesthesia. I think
the anesthesia was the worst to recover from.
