Question:
Do any of you supplement your diets with fiber?

I'm contemplating doing this for regularity - twice a week is about it for me, and I assume that's because I don't each much. Anyone else with this situation?    — scottiemaam O. (posted on January 28, 2003)

I am a year post op & take benefiber, I was lucky if I had a BM once a week. Benefiber helps me with regularity, I just mix it in applesauce & I can't taste it in there. I also heard that prunes will help to but I am not a fan of them. Good Luck to you

I've had troubles with constipation. I'm almost 8 weeks out. I've been attributing it to the fact that I eat almost nothing but protein. I was using benefiber, then my nutritionist told me I needed something with psyllium to really do the job. Benefiber has guar gum. So now I use sugar free metamucil, the kind you stir into water. It's working fine. Along the way I tried fibercon pills and metamucil wafers. Both made me sick. Especially the wafers. You're supposed to take them with a full glass of water and they expanded in my pouch. I've also tried adding prunes and grape nuts cereal into my diet to help.

I'm 3 1/2 months post-op and would be lost w/out any fiber supplement. When I was a newbie, I tried suppositories, but eventually my body got used to them and made matters worse. I also tried sugar free fiber choice (found at Target) and its great tasting, but didn't help me. So now around 10 pm. I have 2 dried prunes right before bed. I don't think they are that bad, better then that nasty suppository. By the next day like cloclwork, poo!! YEAH!! Never thought something so normal would feel oh so good!! I guess you just have to find what works for you. Good luck sweetie!!

I was fine until about six months out, then *poof!* -- the train just did NOT want to leave the station. Tried a lot of things, but what works great now is using Benefiber once a day (I put it in my protein shake), AND mixing a little bit of Kellogg's All-Bran into my Special K in the morning. :)
