Question:
Should we see a special Bariatric doctor yearly?
My friend's dad is a doctor and he said just like someone with a heart condition having a cardiologist, someone who's had Bariatric surgery should have a Bariatric internist of some kind to check in with once a year. Is this something I need to look into? — Cindi S. (posted on January 27, 2003)

Most surgeons will do ongoing follow up. My surgeon's philosphy is that
this is a life time commitment. After my intitial follow-up periodI will
have yearly check-ups with him for life. He is also training someone under
him who will take his places when he retires or dies.

At my consult, my surgeon let me know in no uncertain terms that he and I
were going to be partners for life!! He will expect to see me once a year
for the rest of my life after he does my surgery. The prospect doesn't
bother me at all - he's quite the cutie! ;)
