Question:
When do you notice a change in clothing size?

OK... I know you folks are going to get sick of my inane questions, but this is what this forum is for, right? LOL Let me say right off the bat that NO, I did not do this for vanity - but this is an honest question that I want to ask. OK...

The day of my surgery I was 5'5" and 270# - fitting comfortably into a size 22. 6 weeks and almost 35 pounds later, I'm STILL a comfortable size 22. When am I going to notice something?? I'm sick of being told "It will happen..." One would think that is enough to notice something!! I know I'm getting impatient, but I would have expected my jeans to at least feel a little loose. There are days when I feel even bigger than before. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but my mother had surgery the week before me and started at the same size (weighed a little less, but same clothing size) - she's now down to squeezing into a 16. Talk about frustrating!!! — Toni C. (posted on January 27, 2003)

Everyone is different. I lost 40 pounds before surgery and had just went down one size. Since surgery I have lost another 50 pounds and still only down one more size. I am at 240 and still can not get into a 22. Everyone keeps telling me the same thing it will happen. Good luck try not to get to frustrated.

I started out at almost the same place as you. The same thing happened to me too. I lost weight in my face, fingers, feet, and everywhere else except for where I wanted it. I was about2 1/2 or 3 months out before I started going down in clothes sizes, but let me tell you when it started to drop the sizes melted off so fast I couldn't keep up with my pants shopping. I bought a pair of jeans and 3 days later had to go buy a pair 2 sizes smaller. People that didn't know I had surgery thought something was wrong with me....lol. I know you are tired of hearing it will come off but remember you didn't put that weight on over night and it will take just a little time to take it off. Good Luck

I started at 5'4 255lbs and a size 22 pants. I didn't lose any pant sizes until I got down to 215 then I went down a size every two weeks. I'd buy a pair of jeans and all of the sudden they were baggy and I'd have to buy another size smaller. I am now 197lbs and in a size 14 and holding. Good Luck.

Toni, I am 5'5 and started out at 305. I am now 218 and am waering L/XL tops and 16/18 bottoms (16 @ Ann Taylor)...I was 24 bottoms day of surgery and 26/28 in suits. I am dropping more sizes now, but, I would say theat I was a 24 until I was about 275, then 22 at 260 and 20 @ 250 and then every 10 lbs or so, I am dropping sizes. Good Luck . Hi Toni: There is nothing wrong with vanity! Even though many of us, myself included, looked into this surgery for health improvements, I would be lying if I said losing weight and looking good did not also factor into the equation, lol. For myself, I did not drop any sizes until I lost about 35 pounds. I wore my extra large clothing until it was about to burst. Therefore, 35 pounds less, I really fit in the clothes I squeezed into. Are you measuring the inches around your bust, waist and hips? Give that a try while you did not yet lose clothing sizes. You are probably in a size 20 in certain jeans now. Try some new brands, and see if that is not so. Over 200 pounds, it seems that someone my height (5'4"), has to lose 35 pounds to go down a size. After that, below 199, for me, sizes drop anywhere from 10-20 pounds of weight lost, depending upon your height. I have asked the size question before, after seeing some who weighed 150 pounds wearing a size 4. I would have to weigh 115 pounds to wear a size 4. Please keep up the good work. You ARE doing wonderfully, and I bet your size will drop soon, if it has not already.

Toni, first of all congratulations on your weight loss. That's great! It took me about 3 months before I bought any clothes in a different size. I too was a 22/24. My starting weight was 254. I am 5 months post op and down to 181 and a size 14. It will happen and when it does, it'll happpen so fast you won't know what size you're suppose to be wearing. Don't compare yourself to others, it can be so discouraging and you have no reason to get discouraged. It will happen!!

I am 7 weeks post, lost 31 pounds, and I still wear size 22 on the bottom, and 18/20 on the top. I'm 5'4 and started at 242 and now weigh 211. I could buy smaller stretchy pants, but in jeans I still need a 22. I did however, go down from a 42D to a 38C. I'm losing from the head down. It's frustrating. :) I have some 18's that I try to squeeze into just for comparison, and it's a joke. LOL! I feel your pain. :)
