Question:
Intestinal blockage???
Hi all. I'm going to paste what I've entered into my profile today. PLEASE, anyone with advice or similiar experiences, talk to me!<P> 1:00 pm -- SCRAMBLED EGGS ARE NOT MY FRIEND. I had 2 bites and have been in a lot of pain since. Some days I wonder what I was thinking when I decided to have this surgery!!! A few hours later... Well, I've been throwing up and in great pain for the last 4 hours. I even started throwing up bile and food that I ate yesterday. I got ahold of Dr. Smith and told him what was going on. I'm worried because there shouldn't be any stomach bile in my new stomach, so where is it coming from??? And why would food I ate yesterday be coming back up??? He said that most likely I got something (the eggs) stuck and now my stoma is swollen from the irritation. I'm supposed to drink small amounts of meat tenderizer in water for the next 24 hours. If I keep throwing up, keep trying for 24 hours. If I'm still throwing up in 24 hours, I have to call him and he's going to send me to the ER. I might have a closing/closed stoma, and they will have to dilate it. If it stays down initially, but comes up later, he says that he will put me back in the hospital on the assumption that I have a blockage somewhere further down, and he will have to open me up and fix it. I couldn't get him to be more specific than that. Even if this meat tenderizer does work, he said that I'm going to be on a full liquid diet for at least 2 weeks to give my stoma time to settle down. I REALLY REALLY do NOT want to go back in for more surgery! — SuzAnne S. (posted on January 26, 2003)
